Doe O-Mega Urban Complex

Building Design by Peng Architects

Inspired by the existing atrium office space, the Doe O-Mega Urban Complex is a three-dimensional O-shaped urban complex with a scale of 400,000 square meters. It combines office, residential, hotel, commerce, and meeting space to create a shared complex space that integrates fashion and entertainment.

The Doe O-Mega Urban Complex, designed by Peng Architects, is set to become a landmark building in Manila. With its unique design and focus on green and sustainable development, it aims to provide a demonstration of the city's commitment to a greener future.

The design of the complex takes into consideration the hot and humid climate of Manila. Rust-proof and moisture-proof materials are used to ensure the longevity of the building. The light-colored facade reduces the amount of light absorption, keeping the temperature inside the building lower.

One of the key features of the Doe O-Mega Urban Complex is its emphasis on creating a comfortable outdoor space. The atrium, which is under shade most of the day, acts as a natural outdoor space for occupants and visitors. The wind tunnel design reduces wind resistance and saves structural materials, while natural wind helps regulate the temperature and ventilation, reducing the energy consumption of air conditioning.

The building also incorporates sustainable technologies. Transparent photovoltaic glass railings collect and use solar energy, while the roof of the commercial podium is designed as an urban garden, reducing the heat island effect. This rooftop garden serves as a front garden for the hotel and a sports park for citizens to share and interact.

The Doe O-Mega Urban Complex is located in the economically prosperous area of Bonifacio Global City in the Philippines. The original building, which housed the Philippine National Petroleum Corporation and the Department of Energy, has been transformed into a modern and vibrant urban complex.

The design of the Doe O-Mega Urban Complex presented several challenges, particularly in integrating the park and landscape within the urban complex. The solution was to raise the park landscape to the roof of the podium, creating a comfortable roof garden that combines sunlight with self-shading and ventilation.

The Doe O-Mega Urban Complex has been recognized for its outstanding design. It was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Architecture, Building, and Structure Design category in 2022. This prestigious award acknowledges the project's creativity, technical excellence, and contribution to improving the quality of life.
